Alley Between Blocks 11 and 12

Tal Handaq
Two photos taken from slightly different positions a couple of hours apart (note shadows).   Block-11 on the left was the NAAFI canteen (IT Lab for M.A. Vassalli I believe) and Block-12 on the right. For most pupils this is probably an area of the school they rarely walked through.  The steps at bottom right lead into my 2BG History classroom - what must have been the darkest room in the school.

Anyone have any information or stories about this area - please let me know.

In 1965/66 this area was busy and populated by the 6th form. The block on the left was the Upper 6th (Senior) Common Room and the door in the centre of the photo led to block 3T, the Lower 6th (Junior) Common Room. I recall one day in 1965 as a member of the JCR we held an impromptu mock trial in what should have been a free study period. I can’t remember the details of the trial but I know all the participants were highly exercised – to the extent that maths master Mr McGillivray had to attend from his classroom at the other end of Block 12 and tell us, surprisingly calmly, to quieten down.
